03 killed & 05 injured in four motor accidents

Three persons have been killed and five, including a 05-month-old infant, have been injured in four motor accidents that were reported in the 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.

Five persons, including a 05-month-old infant, have been injured after a van had fallen into a 100-meter precipice in the Udaweriya- Ohiya area in the Haputale Police Division yesterday.

The Police said that the van that was travelling from Udaweriya to the Ohiya Train station had veered off the road and fallen into the precipice due to the driver being unable to control the vehicle. 

Five people, including the infant, who are residents of Haputale and Kandy, who had sustained injuries in the accident have been admitted to the Badulla Hospital.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old resident of Rathnagiriya has died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a lamp post in the Madampe Police Division yesterday. 

The Police said that the rider had lost control of his motorcycle while travelling towards Wilaththawa and had crashed into the lamp post. The injured individual succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Chilaw Hospital.

Also, a 64-year-old resident of Galle has died after being knocked down by a motorcycle close to Vajira Road, in Bambalapitiya last night.

The Police said the injured pedestrian had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. The motorcyclist and the pillion rider who had also sustained injuries are also receiving treatment at the hospital.

Furthermore, a 73-year-old pedestrian has died after being knocked down by a motorcycle travelling from Attigale to Meegoda yesterday.

The injured individual had died after being admitted to the Homagama Hospital. The injured motorcyclist is also receiving treatment in hospital. (NewsWire)
