No approval yet : Selection crisis ahead of Afghan ODIs

Sri Lanka’s squad for the Afghanistan ODI series has not yet been approved by the Sports Minister.

The series will begin on Friday in Pallekale and the selected Sri Lanka team is already in Kandy for the series.

According to Sports Ministry sources, the approval for the squad has not yet been granted due to the several complaints received over several questionable selections including the axing of all-rounder Chamika Karunarathne.

Although his form in the T20I World Cup was a concern, Chamika Karunarathne won two man-of-the-match performances when Sri Lanka last played an ODI series against Australia in June.

Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has reportedly summoned Sri Lanka Cricket selectors and the national sports selection committee for a meeting this afternoon to solve the issue.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s selected squad will continue the practice sessions at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. (NewsWire)

The probable Sri Lankan squad for the Afghanistan ODI series is as follows:

Dasun Shanaka (Capt), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dananjaya Lakshan, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Pramod Madushan and Asitha Fernando.
