The Ministry of Power and Energy has announced special power cut plans for tourism zones in Sri Lanka during the month of December.

Subject Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that thereby, the Southern Province and Ella Tourism zones will be exempted from the 1 hour 20 minutes power cut at night time from 1st December.

He further said that the power cuts of 1 hour imposed during the day and 1 hour 20 minutes at night enforced islandwide will continue until the 15th of December.

Unit 3 of the Norochcholai power plant will be added to the National Grid as scheduled on the 15th of December, he said.

Minister Wijesekera said that thereby, all tourism zones identified by the Ministry of Tourism will be exempted from nighttime power cuts.

He said that this will also result in nighttime power cuts enforced islandwide being reduced to 1 hour.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera added that, however, no power cuts will be enforced during Christmas and New Year. (NewsWire)
