The air quality in Sri Lanka has deteriorated due to the air pollution in India and neighbouring countries entering Sri Lanka’s air space, the National Building Research Organisation said.

Speaking to the media, the Director of the Environmental Division of the NBRO Sarath Premasiri said, as a result, smog has been visible in several parts of Sri Lanka over the last three days.

“Air pollution from other countries is entering Sri Lanka’s airspace, mainly from India. However, we expect this situation to improve in the next few days,” Premasiri further said.

Stating that this is a common occurrence with the monsoon seasons in Sri Lanka, he said this will occur from time to time until March next year.

Premasiri also warned people with ailments related to breathing difficulties to remain cautious. (NewsWire)
