LPL 2022 sends sparks flying at its kick off

The Lanka Premier League 2022, the largest domestic T20 tournaments in Sri Lanka began with a magnificent opening ceremony at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on 06th December 2022, hosted by Australia’s famous sports commentator and journalist Neroli Meadows.

  

Famous national and international cricket stars representing the five competing teams of Colombo Stars, Aura Dambulla, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons were present to kick-off of the most awaited moment of the season 3 of the Lanka Premier League.

Brand ambassadors announced for the LPL tournament were the most famous cricket legends Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka, Wasim Akram of Pakistan and Vivian Richards of West Indies.

The official welcome address was delivered by the Director of LPL, Mr. Samantha Dodanwela and the tournament was declared open by the Captain of Sri Lanka women’s cricket team, Chamari Athapaththu.

The tournament which began on the 06th December will continue till 23rd December with 24 matches by 5 teams to be played in 3 venues for the very first time at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. These comes in a great opportunity for the Sri Lankan Cricket fans to experience and enjoy the most awaited tournament of the year.

The opening ceremony was followed by the inaugural match between Jaffna Kings and Galle Gladiators in which Jaffna Kings won by 24 runs. Following Jaffna Kings first victory, the Kandy Falcons triumphed over the Colombo Stars with Andre Fletcher scoring century and Captain Wanindu Hasaranga taking a Hattrick.

The extravagant start of the tournament sent sparks flying, filling the Sri Lankan cricket fans with thrill and excitement.
