Several trade unions, including the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), have launched a silent protest near the Parliament of Sri Lanka today against the proposed amendments to the Inland Revenue Act.
Speaking to the media, the General Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Dr. Haritha Aluthge said they do not oppose the imposing of taxes, but fairness must be exercised when introducing tax amendments.
He further said that the government is attempting to cover up the nearly Rs. 700 billion that was defrauded in the past by members of the various governments by proposing these new tax amendments. (NewsWire)
