The government is considering launching a Budget Airline in Sri Lanka as soon as possible, the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

According to the Daily News, the minister said that several countries currently operate budget airlines, and as Sri Lanka has no such service yet, it is essential to consider the option and prepare a work plan in this regard.

Stating that Sri Lanka has several airports in the country, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said they are operated with proper safety arrangements and standards for aircraft operating in Sri Lanka’s air space, ensuring safe landing and take off.

“Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Service has assured that it is working in accordance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization for this purpose,” he further revealed.

The minister made the remarks on Friday (09), participating in an event held to commemorate the 78th International Aviation Day and the completion of 110 years of Sri Lanka’s aviation industry. (NewsWire)
