Social media activist Dilan Senanayake has questioned the statement issued by the Sri Lanka Police over his attack by a group in Nugegoda on 14th December 2022.

Four individuals suspected to be involved in the knife attack were arrested yesterday along with 2 knives and a three-wheeler.

Revealing details of the incident, Dilan Senanayake said via a Facebook post that he last remembers being attacked by two of the suspects while seated on a bean bag.

He further said that he had been stabbed 7 times and had received 52 stitches as a result.

Dilan Senanayake questioned the statement issued by the Police stating that he had been stabbed over an incident of making fun of a woman during the Aragalaya protest movement in July.

“The Police statement says I had made fun of a woman at the protest site, during which her male friends had confronted me. It further says that I had held one individual’s collar and embarrassed him, due to which he and his friends had wanted to take revenge. However, I do not remember such an incident and can assure that we had more work to do at the protest site than such actions,” he said in his Facebook post.

Dilan Senanayake also inquired as to who the woman mentioned in the incident was, who was in her company, and what he had said to the woman to offend her and the group, calling for the Police to reveal details of her statement.

He pointed out that, however, prior to issuing an official statement, some Police officers had given information to news websites with other information, but have denied doing so when inquired in this regard.
