A 43-year-old woman has been arrested in Grandpass on charges of having abducted a 54-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy over a drug dealing.
The Police stated that an individual from Negombo had purchased narcotics from the woman in Grandpass and had returned to Negombo after making a partial payment.
As the woman had not received the balance payment, she had travelled to Negombo in a three-wheeler with the intention of meeting the youth.
However, as she had failed to meet him, she had instead abducted the youth’s father and sister’s son and had returned to a house in Grandpass.
The Police said the woman had held the 10-year-old boy hostage, while she had released the father of the youth demanding him to pay the balance money in order for the child to be released.
The Police Special Task Force which had been informed of the abduction had raided the house last night and had rescued the child, handing him over to the Grandpass Police.
The Police said the STF had also arrested the suspect woman and had also handed her over to the Grandpass Police.
The Grandpass and Negombo Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
