The Department of Meteorology says thundershowers are expected in several areas in the afternoon or night today.
Thereby, showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.
A few showers may occur in the Southern Province in the morning too, while mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere over the island.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, several spells of light showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaitivu and from Hambanthota to Pottuvil.
Showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places of the other sea area during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 45-55 kmph at times over the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Colombo via Kankasanthurai, Mannar and Puttalam and the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambanthota to Pottuvil.
