The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a probe into allegations of members of the National Election Commission being threatened, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena informed the Parliament today.
Addressing the Parliament, he said that the CID had launched investigations into the incident of two members of the election commission being allegedly threatened last night.
The Prime Minister informed the Parliament in this regard after the matter was raised by Leader of the Opposition MP Sajith Premadasa.
MP Premadasa told Parliament that he has received information that two members of the National Election Commission had been threatened last night over the upcoming Local Government elections.
He further stated that the two election commission members have filed a complaint with the Police in this regard.
MP Premadasa also pointed out that debates on the election were underway in Parliament in the backdrop of such incidents. (NewsWire)
