Three key statements made by President in Anuradhapura

  • The growth rate of the economy in 2022 was -11%. It could be -3.5 or -4.0% this year. But from 2024, we will take this economy to positive growth. We are creating a strong country that does not bow down to anyone and is debt-free, as in the Anuradhapura period
  • If the economic & agricultural program implemented by the Government and the debt restructuring program being carried out with the countries as per IMF program, is disrupted in any way, no one can prevent the country from falling into crisis again similar to May & June last year, President said in Anuradhapura
  • In 2019, around 1.6 million income tax, VAT & national development tax files existed. But due to the tax concessions granted in 2020, these were reduced to around 400,000 by December 2021. The decrease in government revenue due to this is the primary cause of the country’s economic crisis
