The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has filed a writ application before the Court of Appeal against the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said that the writ application has been filed in order to prevent power interruptions during the ongoing 2022 GCE Advanced Level examinations.
Earlier, during a discussion at the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, several stakeholders of the PUCSL and CEB had reached an agreement not to enforce power cuts until the conclusion of the examinations on 17th February 2023.
However, power cuts were imposed in several areas in the following two days despite having agreed not to enforce power cuts.
On Monday ( 30), the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) also filed a petition with the Supreme Court against several government officials in the power sector.
The petition has been filed against the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), and the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy.
The HRCSL filed a petition against the respondents for failing to prevent power cuts during the course of the ongoing Advanced Level Examinations. (NewsWire)
