The deadline to apply for the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination has been extended to midnight on August 12, the Ministry of Education said. 

This extension applies to candidates affected by the re-scrutinized results of the 2024 exam, released online on August 7.

The second paper of the ongoing GCE Advanced Level Examination Agricultural Science subject has been nullified in all three languages, the Department of Examinations announced today. 

According to the Exam Department, the decision has been taken to nullify the exam paper which was issued on Wednesday (Jan 10) due to suspicions of its leakage on social media before the examination.

The Commissioner General of Examinations has declared that a new paper for the affected subject will be provided after the completion of the ongoing exams.

A 19-year-old school student, whose organs were donated after dying due to a sudden illness in March this year, is reported to have obtained distinction passes in the 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examinations.

According to media reports, as per the recently released results of the 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examinations, the girl had obtained 3 A passes in the Commerce Stream.

She is ranked 176 in the Kurunegala District and 2256 in the islandwide rankings. 

The girl, a resident of Kurunegala, had suddenly fallen ill and died, after which her organs had been donated to seven persons. 

Her heart and lungs had been transplanted to one patient, while her two kidneys had been provided to two other patients.

The Ministry of Education has amended the mandatory attendance rate for students sitting the 2023 GCE Advance Level Examination.

Making a special statement in Parliament today, Minister Susil Premajayantha said that students sitting for the exam will require only a minimum of 40% attendance rate to obtain their applications. 

The Minister revealed that the decision has been taken due to the impacts caused to the education sector during the Covid-19 pandemic and the country’s economic crisis. 

“Several students were unable to attend their academic activities due to the crises. Taking into consideration these issues we have amended the attendance rate for the examination application,” he said. 

Minister Premajayantha stated that a circular has been issued to all education officials on the amended mandatory attendance rate for the 2023 GCE Advance Level Examination. 

He added that the mandatory attendance rate has been amended to a minimum of 40% only for this year. 

The 2023 GCE Advance Level Examination will be held from November 27 to December 21, 2023. (NewsWire)
