Four children have died after drowning while bathing in the Ma-Oya in the Walakumbura area in Alawwa today. 

According to the Police, the children were part of a group of five, while one child has been rescued and is receiving treatment at the Kurunegala hospital. 

The deceased children are aged 14 and are residents of Alawwa and Polgahawela. 

The Alawwa Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)

An individual who had robbed a house in Alawwa has been rescued after falling into a well in the premises.

The suspect is reported to have broken into the house and stolen the wallet and mobile phone of a resident. 

However, as the owner of the house had been alerted to the robbery, the suspect had escaped through a window but had fallen into a well covered with a mesh while attempting to escape through the garden.

After being informed by the house residents, the suspect was rescued by the Alawwa Police and taken into custody.
