Workers unearthed a cache of ammunition believed to date back to World War II at The School for the Deaf in Ratmalana on Monday (12), it was reported.

According to News First, the Police said the cache of ammunition was found during routine clearing of garbage on the school premises.

The ammunition, suspected to be rounds used in machine guns, was immediately secured by authorities.

The Police added that the cache of ammunition will be handed over to the Government Analyst’s Department for detailed examination and verification. (Newswire)

A stockpile of empty bullet casings and live ammunition was discovered today (14) near Mudunegama School, along the Thalawa–Rathmalgahawewa Road.

Police stated that the ammunition is used for T-56 type firearms.

The stockpile was found by the Tambuttegama Headquarters Police, and further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the police. (Newswire)

A cache of ammunition was discovered in the Weheragala Lake in Kataragama on Tuesday (30). 

According to the Police, the recovered ammunition includes 74 T-56 magazines, 36 T-56 light machine gun magazines, several T-81 magazines, and two boxes containing other ammunition.
