The body of the anesthesiologist attached to Badulla Teaching Hospital, who had been reported missing, was discovered this morning during a search operation, police confirmed.

Investigations began after authorities received information about a car abandoned near the Viyana canal in the Mapakada 17th mile post area. 

The vehicle, which had been parked at the location since last night (23), was identified as belonging to the missing doctor.

Following the discovery, residents and police jointly launched a search, which led to the recovery of the doctor’s body in a nearby forested area. Police said a packet of medicine was also found close to the body.

Mahiyanganaya Police stated that further investigations are underway into the circumstances surrounding the death. (Newswire)
