The proposal on obtaining approval for the amendments proposed by the Sectoral Oversight Committee to the Animal Welfare Bill has received Cabinet approval. 

Cabinet approval was granted in January 2022 to submit the Animal Welfare Bill to the Parliament, after which it was presented to the Parliament. 

The Bill was then forwarded to the Food Safety and Agriculture Sectoral Oversight Committee for recommendations, where the committee had proposed several amendments. 

The recommended amendments were formulated by the Legal Draftsman to enable submission at the Committee stage which is relevant for the respective Bill, while the clearance of the Attorney General has also been received for the Bill. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries on the amendments related to the Animal Welfare Bill. (Newswire)
