The Constitutional Council has called for applications for the appointment of a Member to the Right to Information Commission (RTI) under the provisions of the Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016.

According to a Parliament statement, applications have been called from suitable individuals to be recommended for appointment as a member of the Right to Information Commission to fill the vacancy that has arisen in respect of the post of Member of the Right to Information Commission.

The applications should be prepared in accordance with the information form which is available on the Parliamentary website www.parliament.lk with a quick link named ‘Appointment of a member to the Right to Information Commission’.

The duly completed applications should be sent to; the Secretary-General to the Constitutional Council, Constitutional Council – Office, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte on or before 01 April 2025 by registered post or by e-mail to constitutionalcouncil@parliament.lk

The National Constitutional Council has called for applications for the appointment of three members to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The applications have been called for under the provisions of Article 41B of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023. 

A Parliament statement said the applications should be prepared in accordance with the sample which is available on the Parliamentary website www.parliament.lk. (Bribery Commission Application)

The duly completed application form should be forwarded to, the Secretary-General to the Constitutional Council, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte by registered post, or by e-mail to constitutionalcouncil@parliament.lk on or before 6th November 2023. 

Applicants are requested to indicate ‘Constitutional Council – Appointments to CIABOC’ on the top left corner of the envelope or as the subject of the e-mail. 

The requirements for suitable applicants are as follows;

The applicants should have expertise, reached eminence, and have at least twenty (20) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: —

1. law;
2. investigation of crime and law enforcement;

iii. forensic auditing;

1. forensic accounting; 
2. engineering; 
3. international relations and diplomatic services; 

vii. management of public affairs; or 

viii. public administration

Every such applicant shall-

1. be a citizen of Sri Lanka; 
2. be not more than sixty-two (62) years of age as at the date of appointment to the Commission; 
3. be physically and mentally fit; 
4. be competent, honest, of high moral integrity, and of good repute; 
5. have relinquished all other remunerated offices before being appointed as a member of the Commission: Provided however, a person holding any remunerated office may be considered for appointment as a member of the Commission if such person relinquishes all remunerated offices prior to assuming office as such member; 
6. not carrying on any business or pursuing any profession while being a member of the Commission; 
7. declare his/ her assets and liabilities to the Constitutional Council according to the prevailing written laws before assuming office as a member of the Commission; and
8. submit to the Constitutional Council, a general disclosure of his/ her interests as at the date of appointment before assuming office as a member of the Commission.

Further, a Person shall be disqualified from being appointed, or continuing as a member of the Commission, if such a person– 

1. has been convicted of a criminal offence other than an offence punishable with only a fine; 
2. is adjudged insolvent by a court of competent jurisdiction; 
3. is or becomes of unsound mind or incapable of carrying out his duties under the Act; 
4. is guilty of serious misconduct in relation to such person’s duties;
5. fails to comply with his/ her obligations under the provisions of this Act; 
6. is, or has been an elected representative to any political office; or 
7. holds or has held any post or membership in any political party recognized for the purposes of presidential elections, parliamentary elections, provincial council elections, or any local government elections conducted under the provisions of respective laws applicable therefor. (NewsWire)

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has commenced the accepting of applications for university admissions for the academic year 2022/23.

UGC Chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunge stated that the applications will be accepted from September 14, 2023 until October 05, 2023.

Prof. Amaratunge further stated that the applications can be submitted online via the UGC’s official website www.ugc.ac.lk.

Following the release of the results of the 2022(2023) GCE Advanced Level Examination earlier this month, Prof. Amaratunge said plans were underway by the government to enroll around 45,000 students in state universities for the new academic year.

A total of 232,797 school applicants and 31,136 private applicants sat for the 2022(2023) GCE Advanced Level examination which was held from January 23 to February 17 this year.

A total of 166,938 candidates (149,487 school applicants and 17,451 private applicants) have qualified for university admissions. (NewsWire)
