The Sri Lanka Army and the High Commission of India in Colombo have collaborated to manufacture artificial limbs with the programme being initiated at the Ranaviru Sevana in Ragama last week (May 03).

The programme commenced with the participation of 8 Indian resource personnel renowned for their expertise in artificial limb production. 

Scheduled for completion on May 23, the workshop aims to provide artificial limbs to 375 Army, 75 Air Force, Navy, and Police personnel. According to the Sri Lanka Army, apart from this, it is planned to distribute artificial limbs to 200 civilians. 

During a symbolic ceremony held as part of the programme, artificial limbs were donated to 4 deserving members of the Army. 

The event was graced by State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon as the Chief Guest, while Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General  Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd), and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage also participated.

The bilateral cooperation between the Sri Lanka Army and the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka for the programme to manufacture artificial limbs reflects a collective commitment to support those who have made sacrifices for the nation’s security and are now confronting challenges due to disabilities.
