Police say that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting and killing of a manager at a business establishment in Ambalangoda town.

Of those arrested, two were taken into custody by the Police Special Task Force, while four were arrested by the Galle Crimes Division.

During these raids, a pistol and a revolver were also recovered from the Hikkaduwa area.

The shooting, which occurred on December 22, resulted in the death of the manager of a business establishment in Ambalangoda town at the scene itself.

Two individuals who arrived on a motorcycle carried out the shooting and then fled.

Police suspect that the shooting was the outcome of a clash between two rival criminal gangs.

Investigations have also revealed that the victim of the shooting had maintained connections with members of criminal gangs. (Newswire)

A collision involving three buses is reported to have occurred in the Madola area of Balangoda around 6:15 a.m. today (11). 

According to reports, the accident took place when an SLTB bus travelling from Pelmadulla to Balangoda collided with a private bus travelling from Balangoda to Colombo, as well as another SLTB bus heading in the same direction.

It is reported that one SLTB bus was carrying passengers, including schoolchildren, at the time of the accident.

One school student was reported dead after a tree had fallen onto a building in a school in Balangoda today.

According to the Police, 16 other students who were injured in the incident have been admitted to the hospital.

It is reported that the deceased is a 17-year-old schoolboy.

An 18-year-old youth has died after being struck by lightning in the Godakumbura area in Balangoda yesterday (24).

The Police stated that the boy had been struck by lightning while he was at his residence last evening.

He was transported to the Balangoda Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
