Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP D.V. Chanaka today slammed the government, questioning the real financial figures related to the Supreme SAT project, commonly referred to as “Chichi’s rocket”.

Addressing the Parliament today, he pointed out that contradictory figures had been shared by PM Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe concerning the satellite project.

“Was Rs. 80,000 million or Rs. 300 million recorded as revenue from the project? Who is correct? The Prime Minister or the Minister? All I wanted to know was whether government funds had been used and had it brought in profit,” he said. 

MP Chanaka pointed out that during the 2022 ‘Aragalaya’ people’s struggle, the public had held placards stating that ‘Chichi had used government money to send a rocket.

He said, however, both PM Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe have confirmed in their speeches that government funds had not been utilised. (Newswire)
