A group of foreign nationals, including Chinese nationals, were detained following a raid on a leading hotel in Chilaw, with authorities now investigating a large number of computers found at the premises.

Police said the hotel had been leased to Chinese nationals about two months ago. According to reports, a significant number of computers were operating from the location, prompting suspicion among residents.

Area residents said the individuals had told them they were conducting computer-related training. However, locals grew suspicious due to the unusual number of foreign nationals staying at the hotel and informed the authorities.

Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police surrounded the hotel and carried out the operation. During the raid, several Chinese nationals reportedly broke glass windows and attempted to flee the premises.

Residents assisted authorities in apprehending those who escaped, while two individuals who sustained injuries during the incident were admitted to the Chilaw Hospital for treatment.

Locals said they initially believed only a few individuals were staying at the hotel, but during the operation, it was revealed that a large number, estimated between 100 and 150 people, were inside the premises.

The computers and related equipment found at the hotel have been taken for examination by CID officers, while further investigations are underway. (Newswire)

A large catch of Thick-lipped Trevally fish valued at over Rs. 10 million has been reported from the Udappuwa area in Chillaw.

According to reports, with the start of the fishing season, a stock of approximately 15,000 kilos of fish was found in a fishing net in Udappuwa.

The owner of the net was informed by fishermen that a large number of fish had been caught while inspecting the net around noon on Saturday (01).

Due to the inability to handle the catch with a single net and to prevent the fish from escaping back into the sea, two additional nets, named Kalinadan and Siri, were quickly deployed to secure the harvest.

It is further reported that due to adverse weather conditions over the past two weeks, fishermen, including those using fishing nets, had not secured a significant catch until now. (Newswire)

The Panadura- Walana Police have seized an illegally assembled luxury vehicle worth over Rs. 10 million from the Marawila area in Chillaw.

The Police stated that the vehicle, which had illegally assembled the chassis and engine, had been seized following a raid conducted based on a tip-off.

The individual who was in possession of the vehicle was found to be without any official documents pertaining to the vehicle at the time of the seizure.

Further investigations had found that the individual had purchased the luxury vehicle from another person from the Gampaha area six months ago.

Following issues that had arisen while attempting to register for a revenue licence the new owner of the vehicle had informed the seller, after which the latter had taken all the documents pertaining to the vehicle agreeing to obtain the revenue licence.

Police investigations have revealed that the seller was an individual who has been engaged in the illegal vehicle trade and had been previously arrested for a similar offence.

The seized luxury vehicle is currently in the custody of the Chillaw Police, while the Panadura- Walana Police is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
