The body of the Chinese national, who was reported to have been abducted following a clash at the Colombo Port City, has been recovered in Eheliyagoda. 

According to the Police, a clash had occurred between two groups last night during which three Chinese nationals were abducted. 

However, two of the abducted individuals were abandoned with injuries and admitted to hospital, while one individual was reported missing.

The missing Chinese national’s body has been recovered in the Karandana area in Eheliyagoda today (23). 

The Police said the body has been moved to the Avissawella Hospital, while investigations are underway into the incident. (Newswire)

A Chinese national has been found dead under suspicious circumstances at a luxury hotel in Slave Island, Colombo.

According to the Police, the body of the victim was found on the 22nd floor of the luxury hotel. 

The Police said the victim has been identified as a 46-year-old Chinese national.

Thirty-one (31) more Chinese nationals have been arrested from two separate areas on suspicion of involvement in online scams in Sri Lanka.

The Police said 16 Chinese nationals were arrested from a hotel in the Aniwatte area in Kandy yesterday. 

The arrest comes after 126 Chinese nationals, 02 Vietnamese, a Thai national and a Philippine national were previously apprehended in the Naththaranpotha area in Kandy on Saturday.

Meanwhile, fifteen (15) more Chinese nationals were arrested from an apartment in the Ethul Kotte area in Welikada on Sunday. 

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is conducting further investigations into the arrests. 

Last week alone, nearly 129 foreigners, including a large number of Chinese nationals, were arrested due to their involvement in online scams.

The following is a list of the arrests made last week;

* 30 Chinese, 4 Indians & 6 Thai nationals were arrested from two locations in Hanwella on 06 October.
*19 Chinese nationals were arrested from Nawala on 07 October.
* 20 Chinese nationals were arrested in Panadura on 10 October.

A Chinese national has died after falling off the 08th floor of a building in Union Place, Colombo. 

According to Lankadeepa, the deceased has been identified as a 24-year-old man employed as an Assistant Engineer at a building which was under construction. 

The Police stated that the man had fallen off the building at around 05.00 pm yesterday (04) while engaging in inspection work.

The Chinese national who had sustained serious injuries due to the fall had died while being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. (NewsWire)

The Chinese national who was arrested for attempting to enter Sri Lanka with a fake passport recently has been identified as a wanted person by the Chinese Government, the Court of Appeal was informed today.

The Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal in this regard when the case pertaining to the Chinese national’s arrest was taken up for hearing today. 

Investigations were launched after the Chinese national had arrived in Sri Lanka with a forged passport, along with a fellow Chinese national and an Egyptian on May 18.

Upon his passport being detected as forged by the Immigration and Emigration officers at the Katunayake airport, the group had behaved in an unruly manner due to which they had been detained to be deported.

However, it was later reported that State Minister of Urban Development and Housing Arundika Fernando had allegedly intervened after which the Chinese national had been released.

The State Minister is reported to have made a written request from the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration to allow the Chinese passenger to enter the country, claiming that he was a foreign investor on a visit to Sri Lanka to invest in housing projects which are under the purview of his ministry.

According to Immigration and Emigration officials, the two Chinese nationals and the Egyptian had been released on Saturday (May 20).

However, Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles ordered an investigation into the incident, and further measures were taken with consultations with the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

The Minister also ordered officials of the Department of Immigration and Emigration to deport the Chinese National who has been detained by Sri Lankan authorities. (NewsWire)
