An 11-year-old boy was reported dead after being run over by a tractor transporting a rice harvester machine in the Uduvil area in Chunnakam, Jaffna yesterday.

The Police said the child who had sustained serious injuries in the incident had died after being admitted to the Jaffna Hospital.

Investigations reveal that the child had attempted to climb onto the rice harvester machine and had fallen over, and was then run over by the back wheel of the tractor driven by his father.

A 55-year-old man has died after being tied to a tree and assaulted over a romantic affair with a 19-year-old girl in Uduvil, Chunnakam in the Northern Province. 

According to Daily Mirror, the Police stated that six suspects have been arrested over the assault and murder.

Officers of the Chunnakam police had found the man beaten and tied to a tree based on a tip-off. They had freed the man and admitted him to the Thelippalai Hospital, where the victim succumbed to injuries.

Police investigations have revealed that the man had been assaulted over a romantic affair involving a 19-year-old girl from the area.

The Police stated that a group from the girl’s side who were against the affair had assaulted the victim. The group had also assaulted the girl and she is receiving treatment at the Thelippalai Hospital.

The arrested suspects are aged between 23 and 48 years and are residents of Chunnakam. (NewsWire)
