The Civil Aviation Authority has announced plans to test a drone aircraft service capable of carrying passengers in Sri Lanka.

According to NewsFirst, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Daminda Rambukwella, said the initiative will be implemented as a pilot project, marking a significant step in modernizing air transport.

Each drone aircraft will be able to carry six passengers, with officials noting that similar projects are already operating successfully in China, Singapore, and Thailand. (Newswire)

The Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Civil Aviation Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at minimizing harm to wildlife around airports while ensuring the efficient operation of Mattala Airport.

The agreement was signed this morning (27) at Mattala Airport by the Director General of Wildlife and the Acting Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority.

The MoU sets out collaborative measures to reduce wildlife‑related incidents near the airport, safeguard biodiversity, strengthen sustainable practices in airport management, and enhance coordination between aviation authorities and wildlife experts. (Newswire)

Rayhan Wanniappa has been appointed as the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL).

According to the CAASL, this appointment follows the retirement of Sagara Kotakadeniya (Retd.), the former DGCA and CEO.

Wanniappa has been serving the Civil Aviation Authority since 2003 in various key capacities.
