A stock of imported liquor bottles kept as case evidence have been found to be replaced with plain tea, prompting the Colombo Magistrate’s Court Registrar to file a complaint with the Keselwatta Police.

According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, a stock of Arrack bottles among the imported liquor had been found to be replaced with plain tea when the bottles were taken to be destroyed.

The liquor bottles had been ordered to be destroyed in the presence of court officials by Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena. 

However, at the time, it was found that 81 imported liquor bottles and 150 beer bottles had been replaced with other liquid substances. 

This was detected during the inspection of 17 bottles, after which the magistrate had ordered the liquor bottles to be seized and taken into court custody. 

As such, the court registrar has filed a complaint with the Keselwatta Police to launch an investigation into the matter. (Newswire)

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been permitted to detain and interrogate the custodian in charge of the evidence room of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court after a stock of heroin worth Rs. 240 million was reported missing. 

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today allowed the CID to detain and interrogate the custodian in charge of the evidence room of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The custodian was arrested in connection with the disappearance of 12 kilos of heroin worth Rs.240 million, from the evidence room.  

The stock of heroin was kept at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court’s evidence room concerning a case being deliberated at the Colombo High Court. 

It was found that an individual posing as a state intelligence service official had taken the stock of heroin stating that it was to be produced before the Government Analysts Department. 

It is reported that an individual identifying himself as ‘Tharindu Yoshitha’ from the state intelligence service had taken the heroin. (Newswire)
