The Colombo Additional Magistrate has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct a probe into the suspects who had illegally acquired Minister Bandula Gunawardena’s credit card and utilized it to purchase goods. 

The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela on Tuesday after the CID had presented facts to the court on a complaint that had been filed by the minister in this regard.

The court has instructed that a probe be launched into the breach of trust, fraud, and misuse of the credit card from a state bank which has a credit limit of Rs. 500,000. 

During the hearing, the CID officials had also requested the court to issue an order to the manager of the said bank to provide information on the transactions related to the credit card. 

Accordingly, the court granted permission for the CID to obtain the necessary information from the bank. (Newswire)

A 33-year-old woman has been charged with defrauding approximately Rs 600,000, following the theft of a credit card. 

The Police stated that the woman was arrested after investigations were launched into a complaint filed at the Batapola Police station.

The suspect is a 33-year-old resident of the Batapola area.

Police investigations have revealed that the owner of the credit card had returned from overseas and had utilized the card to withdraw money that had been transferred for his mother’s use. 

The suspect is reported to have stolen the said ATM card and used it to purchase three gold chains and a gold bracelet, and had withdrawn cash. 

The Police had seized the gold jewellery and Rs. 35,000 in cash from the woman’s possession. 

The suspect will be produced before the Batapola Magistrate’s Court today (15). The Batapola Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)

The Narahenpita Police has launched an investigation into the lost credit card of Rohitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. 

According to Daily Mirror, Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena was informed by the Police yesterday that a fraudulent transaction of nearly USD 400 had been carried out on the said credit card.

The Narahenpita Police informed the Additional Magistrate that Rohitha Rajapaksa had filed a complaint stating that he had lost his credit card on 03rd March while travelling from a house in Kotte to Matara. 

The Police requested the court to issue an order to the Manager of the Sampath Bank Head Office to issue the transaction report linked to the bank account for investigation purposes. (NewsWire)
