Cabinet approval has been granted for the appointment of a new delimitation committee to review and submit recommendations on the reports of the previous delimitation committees appointed for the years 2012 and 2021.

According to the government, a delimitation committee was appointed in 2012 for the establishment and revision of Divisional Secretariat divisions and Grama Niladhari divisions, and steps were taken to implement only certain recommendations of the said committee.

Subsequently, a delimitation committee was reappointed in 2021, and no action has been taken regarding the recommendations of that committee. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government to appoint a new delimitation committee.

The new committee is tasked with obtaining recommendations on the previous committee reports from the Divisional Coordination Committees and the District Coordination Committees.

Having obtained their recommendations and reviewed them, the new committee will submit a fresh report with recommendations. (Newswire)
