Attorney-at-Law Sudath Wickramaratne has been questioned by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) over a viral social media video concerning allegations that a young man was summoned to the Dematagoda Police Station for writing traditional Sinhala curse verses, known as Was Kavi.

According to the Police Media Division, the lawyer, who had publicised the video, was summoned to the CCIB today (26), where a statement was recorded from him.

Police said the video circulating on social media contains a false claim that a young man was summoned to the Dematagoda Police Station on or around October 22, 2026, and questioned on suspicion of writing Was Kavi.

The CCIB has launched an investigation into the matter on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Police Media Division said further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
