A complaint has been filed on wiring being stripped from the auditorium on the 6th floor of the Colombo Deputy Inspector General’s (DIG) Office, it was reported. 

According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, the Police Headquarters says a complaint has been filed with the Divisional Crimes Investigation Office in this regard.

The Police said the suspect had broken into the auditorium and had stolen copper wiring from the electricity wires supplying power to the electronic equipment in the auditorium. 

The officer in charge of the building has filed a complaint with the Colombo-Central Crimes Investigation Office, claiming that the robbery took place between 01 August and 24 September. 

The value of the stolen goods is yet to be estimated, while the Colombo-Central Crimes Investigation Office is conducting investigations into the matter. (Newswire)

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Colombo, Uditha Liyanage, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over allegations of treasure hunting against his wife.

DIG Uditha Liyanage is due to be presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court.

He has been arrested in connection with the incident where his wife and seven others were arrested on 15th August for allegedly engaging in treasure hunting at a temple in Shravasthipura, Thimbirigaskadawala, Anuradhapura.

The suspects were arrested by the Anuradhapura Police, based on a tip-off, and were remanded until 26th of August after being produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)

A youth who had defrauded money via WhatsApp by posing as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) has been arrested and remanded until 09 January 2025.

The suspect who had financially defrauded several persons, including businessmen, was arrested by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). 

The suspect, a resident of Borella, had utilised the name and image of a DIG to send messages via WhatsApp to various persons, financially defrauding them.

Investigations have revealed that the youth had called businessmen claiming to be a DIG and had defrauded money from them by threatening to initiate legal action over false complaints against them.  

The arrested youth has been remanded until 09 January 2025 after being produced in court. (Newswire)
