Two suspects have been arrested in Divulapitiya for attempting to sell two Triton’s Trumpet conch shells valued at Rs. 60 million.

Officials from the Western Regional Office of the Department of Wildlife Conservation arrested the suspects during a raid in the Divulapitiya area yesterday (29). 

Thereafter, the suspects were released on personal bail of Rs. 500,000 each, and are scheduled to be presented before the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court on November 4. (Newswire)

A 46-year-old man was killed in an attack at a restaurant in Ihala Madampella, within the Divulapitiya Police Division, early this morning (18).

Police said a group of individuals had assaulted the victim with their hands, feet, wooden poles, and later attacked him with a sharp weapon, leading to his death. Initial investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute that escalated into a heated argument.

The victim, a resident of Ihala Madampella, was pronounced dead, and his body has been placed at the Gampaha Hospital morgue.

The Divulapitiya Police said no arrests have been made so far, but investigations are underway to apprehend the suspects. (Newswire)

Sri Lanka Police has seized a stock of ambergris (fossilized resin of a whale) that was being prepared to be sold for Rs. 05 million in the Divulapitiya Police Division.

According to the Police, the stock of ambergris was seized during a raid conducted by officers of the Divulapitiya Police Station in the Bomugammana area on the Divulapitiya-Negombo road yesterday.

The Police arrested a suspect with 1.2 kilos of ambergris, which is a secretion produced by sperm whales.
