A 28-year-old Police Constable was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a road accident near the Belek Kade Junction in Ratmalana on Tuesday (Jan 28).

According to the Police, the Constable who was driving a Police Jeep from Ratmalana to Moratuwa had collided with a three-wheeler near the Ratmalana Station Road.

The injured three-wheeler driver had been admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital for treatment and had been discharged a few days later. 

The Police said the Constable was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a road accident. 

The Police Constable is a 28-year-old resident of Hikkaduwa and was attached to the Mount Lavinia Crimes Investigation Unit. 

He has been released on a surety of Rs. 100,000 by the Mount Lavinia Magistarte’s Court.

The Sri Lanka Police is set to conduct a disciplinary inquiry against the Constable and will take further action. (Newswire)
