Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration officials have busted a new method used by Sri Lankans to flee to European countries, it was reported.

According to Lankadeepa, the racket was busted following the arrest of a 32-year-old resident of Dehiwala who attempted to fly to Malta via India.

Several Embassies of European countries are located in India from which diplomatic officials also handle affairs, including visa processes, relevant to Sri Lankans.

Thereby, Sri Lankans have been found to be travelling to India to obtain visas to European countries by using false documents with the assistance of brokers.

Immigration and Emigration officials at the Katunayake Airport had apprehended a youth who had obtained a visa to Malta using fake documents and had intended to travel to Malta via India.

Interrogations of the suspect had led Customs Officials to bust the new visa racket. (NewsWire)
