Former Member of Parliament Tissa Kuttiarachchi appeared before the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) today (16). 

It is reported that Tissa Kuttiarachchi arrived before the FCID to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation.

Upon his arrival, speaking to reporters outside the FCID, the former MP said he was summoned before the Police Illegal Assets Investigation Unit.

“I can only respond after answering their questions inside. I have not engaged in any fraud or corruption,” he said, prior to entering the FCID premises. (Newswire)

Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa is to be questioned by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) over the deposit of Rs. 10 million from the National Savings Bank into the Siriliya Saviya account, which she headed, it was reported.

According to state newspaper Dinamina, the investigation concerns the alleged misuse of funds collected under the claim of purchasing a CT scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo. It has since been revealed that the scanner was donated free of charge by the Chinese government.

The FCID’s Financial Crimes Investigation Unit has already questioned bank officials and members of the then Board of Directors regarding the deposit. It was disclosed that the money was transferred following a written request made by Siriliya Saviya into its accounts maintained at Maradana and Suduwella branches.

A senior police officer has stated that since Rs. 10 million was obtained from a state bank for the purchase of the CT scanner but not used for the intended purpose, investigations are underway to determine what happened to the money. 

He added that although Shiranthi Rajapaksa was scheduled to be questioned, she was reported to be unwell at the time, and questioning will take place later.

The officer further stated that several questionable matters exist regarding the Siriliya Saviya account, and investigations are continuing. 

He also revealed that Shiranthi Rajapaksa had already been questioned for more than four hours on February 3 regarding the account. (Newswire)

Former Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke appeared before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) today (10) in connection with investigations into the controversial MiG aircraft procurement transaction.

A collective of academics, journalists, feminist activists, and lawyers has issued a statement expressing concern and solidarity with Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, following reports that she has been summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Issuing a statement, the collective stated that the summons is reportedly linked to an ongoing case against her husband, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, concerning the alleged use of public funds to attend a ceremony at the University of Wolverhampton. At the event, Professor Wickremesinghe was awarded an Honorary Professorship in recognition of her extensive research, training, and policy work on gender equity and equality.

Professor Wickremesinghe, who holds a PhD from the University of London, serves as Chair and Senior Professor of English at the University of Kelaniya and is the founding Director of its Centre for Gender Studies. With over three decades of teaching and research experience, she has contributed significantly to gender equality policy development, training, and programme evaluation both in Sri Lanka and internationally. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has arrived at the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to record a statement.

She was summoned in connection with an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving the accounts of the ‘Siriliya’ organization.

Former Minister Johnston Fernando has arrived at the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) in connection with investigations into the alleged misuse of a Lanka Sathosa lorry. 

Johnston Fernando had been notified to appear before the FCID today after the Police had launched a probe to arrest him in connection with an incident where a Lanka Sathosa lorry was allegedly misused, causing a financial loss to the state.

Indika Ratnamalala, who served as Transport Manager at Lanka Sathosa during Fernando’s tenure as Minister of Cooperative and Internal Trade, was arrested yesterday (04) in relation to the same incident. 

He was remanded until January 09 after being produced before the Wattala Magistrate’s Court.

Speaking to the media, former MP Weerawansa said he had recorded a statement over comments made many years ago regarding the wealth of Basil Rajapaksa and his family members.

Wimal Weerawansa said that written information regarding his comments had been handed over to the Police. 

“Basil Rajapaksa was not employed in the US. Whatever assets he owns in the US, are from the wealth acquired through his job in Sri Lana. The assets are under his and his family members’ names,” Weerawansa said, adding that information in his possession was handed over to the authorities.
