The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood warning, cautioning of a minor flood risk in the Mahaweli River Basin. 

The warning, marked Amber, is valid until 1.00 pm tomorrow, August 06. 

According to the Irrigation Department, predicted rainfall and the opening of spillway gates at the Kotmale Reservoir could lead to minor flooding in low‑lying areas.

Residents in the Udunuwara, Udapalatha, Yatinuwara, Doluwa, Ganga Ihala Korale, Gangawata Korale, and Harispattuwa Divisional Secretariat Divisions have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

The Department added that the public should stay alert to weather developments and follow safety guidance as conditions evolve. (Newswire)

The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood warning as of 10.00 am today, cautioning of possible minor flood conditions in the Kuda Ganga Sub Basin of the Kalu River.

The advisory, valid until 10.00 am on Sunday (31), notes that heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas and the opening of spill gates at the Kukule Ganga reservoir could trigger flooding within 48 hours in low‑lying regions.

Areas at risk include the floodplains of Kuda Ganga and Maguru Ganga, affecting the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara.

Residents in these areas, as well as motorists travelling through flood‑prone routes, have been urged to remain vigilant. (Newswire)

The Department of Irrigation has warned of possible minor flood conditions in low‑lying areas of the Kelani River Valley over the next 48 hours, following significant rainfall of nearly 300 mm recorded in the river’s catchment areas.

According to gauging station data, rising water levels in the Kelani River Basin could affect downstream regions, including the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Hanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Padukka, Homagama, Biyagama, Kaduwela, Kolonnawa, Kelaniya, Wattala, and Colombo.

Residents in these areas, as well as motorists travelling through flood‑prone routes, have been urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
