The Ministry of Sports has provided compensation to the injured and the families of victims of the accident that occurred at the ‘Fox Hill Super Cross 2024’ event in Diyathalawa in April.

Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry has provided a sum of Rs. 1 million each to the families of those who were killed in the tragic accident.

A sum of Rs. 250,000 each is to be provided as compensation to those who were injured in the incident. 

Seven individuals were killed and 23 others were injured after a car hurtled into spectators during the races held in Diyathalawa. 

The two drivers of the cars that were involved in causing the tragic accidents were initially arrested and remanded but were later released on bail.

A seven-member investigation panel, led by a Major General, was also appointed to uncover the circumstances surrounding the accident and to prevent future such incidents. (Newswire)

Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) says a thorough investigation will be conducted to understand the causes that led to the tragic accident at the recent ‘Fox Hill Super Cross 2024’ event in Diyathalawa.

Issuing a statement, SLAS said steps will also be taken to implement additional safety measures to prevent such events from occurring in the future. 

“While the Sri Laka Army is conducting an inquiry, A three-member independent committee headed by a Senior President’s Counsel has been appointed by SLAS to conduct an Inquiry,” it added.

The SLAS further said that urgent steps have also been taken to support all the families of victims financially at the moment. 

Seven individuals were killed and 23 others were injured after a car hurtled into spectators at the motorsports event held in Diyathalawa on Sunday.

The two drivers of the racing cars involved in the fatal accident at the recent ‘Fox Hill Super Cross 2024’ motorsports event have been granted bail. 

The two drivers, who were remanded while undergoing treatment in hospital, were granted bail by the Bandarawela Magistrate today. 

Seven individuals were killed and 23 others were injured after a car hurtled into spectators during the races held in Diyathalawa on Sunday. 

Several motorsport drivers also condemned the arrests of the car drivers over the incident, pointing out that preparations for the racetrack and crowd control are the responsibilities of the organizers. 

A seven-member investigation panel, led by a Major General, has been appointed to probe the tragic accident.

According to the Sri Lankan Army Spokesman, the investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the accident. (Newswire)
