The Jana Aragala Sandanaya has lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission over the Bharatanatyam Guinness World Record event held at Galle Face Green on June 14, alleging financial irregularities and misuse of state patronage.

Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Jana Aragala Sandanaya representative and Front Line Socialist party (FSP) Propaganda Secretary Duminda Nagamuwa alleged that around 5,000 participants, mainly children from the Northern and Hill Country communities, had each been charged Rs. 5,000 to take part in the event.

He further claimed that participants were later asked to make additional payments for certificates and related items, placing a significant financial burden on families who travelled to Colombo.

Nagamuwa questioned why the government had supported and promoted an event organised by a private company that ultimately secured a Guinness World Record in its own name, rather than for a Sri Lankan state institution or the participants.

He also questioned why government ministers and state resources were used to support what he described as a privately organised event.

Jana Aragala Sandanaya has called on the Bribery Commission to investigate the matter, urged organisers to refund money collected from participants if any wrongdoing is established, and sought an explanation from the government over its role in the event.

The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) announced today that it has filed a case before the Court of Appeal seeking to block the government from recovering losses caused by importing substandard coal through electricity tariffs or tax revenue.

Issuing a statement, FSP Education Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda said the party is demanding accountability from those responsible for the losses, rather than burdening the public.

“Because of importing substandard coal, electricity generation fell below the expected level, and the shortfall had to be covered with high‑priced diesel fuel, causing a huge loss. The financial loss from damage to boilers, environmental costs not accounted for, and fuel losses could exceed Rs. 20 billion. The government is trying to impose this loss on the people, who are already burdened by the cost of living. That cannot be allowed,” Jayagoda stated.

The FSP has requested the Court of Appeal to issue a prohibitory order against charging the public, a mandamus order to recover losses from the importing company, politicians, and officials involved, an interim order preventing electricity tariff hikes until the case concludes, and a writ order annulling the Gazette notification on tariff increases.

Jayagoda accused both the government and the parliamentary opposition of trivializing the issue.

“The opposition, which has no other opinion about the energy sector, has reduced this whole problem to mere theft. The government too is staging a drama, pretending to investigate since 2009, while in reality pickpocketing the people,” he charged.

The FSP noted that reports on the losses had already been released by the Ceylon Electricity Board in February, the Public Utilities Commission in March, and the National Audit Commission in April, but no investigations were called. 

Instead, a commission was appointed, which the party described as suspicious.

Jayagoda added that remarks made by JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva on May 1, criticizing the commission’s report, further intensified doubts.

The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) resumed activities at its office in Yakkala, Gampaha District, today (23) with the participation of district members.

The resumption of activities at the office follows a recent court ruling affirming the party’s right to occupy the premises.

In March this year, the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court ruled that the FSP is legally entitled to continue occupying its headquarters located at Salmal Uyana along Kirindiwela Road in Yakkala. 

The decision came after months of hearings into a dispute that began on September 2, 2025, when a group allegedly linked to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) entered and took control of the office.

In response, the Administrative Secretary of the FSP and affiliated trade unions filed a private plaint under Section 66 of the Primary Courts Procedure Act, seeking legal confirmation of possession. The petition named 20 respondents, including the JVP General Secretary.

At the initial stage, the court issued an interim order handing temporary custody of the property to the police and directing those occupying the premises to vacate. 

However, Gampaha Additional Magistrate Shilani Perera later ruled that possession of the property legally belongs to the FSP and its affiliated trade unions, declaring the removal of party members in September 2025 unlawful and paving the way for the FSP to recommence operations at its Yakkala office. The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) has strongly denounced the recent attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, describing them as violations of international law and conventions.

In a statement, the party said the strikes were launched under the contested claim of nuclear threats, despite ongoing diplomatic engagement and without credible evidence. It noted that this was the second time military aggression had occurred, even as negotiations continued.

The FSP condemned the brutality of the war, pointing to the airstrike on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, which killed hundreds of young girls. The party said the attacks have included targeted assassinations of political leaders and military officials, alongside massive bombings that have caused severe civilian casualties.

Highlighting the broader geopolitical context, the FSP argued that the collapse of the Soviet‑led camp had ended the US vision of a unipolar world, with a multipolar order now intensifying inter‑imperialist contradictions. It cited tariff policies and trade wars under the Trump administration, as well as acts of aggression in Ukraine, Palestine, Venezuela, and Iran, as evidence of escalating global tensions.

“The imperialist war, waged for the interests of monopoly capital, is bringing destruction to the entire world and has put humanity at risk from the very first step. Furthermore, the rising military tensions between nuclear powers have jeopardised the survival of the human race and the entire planet. Against this backdrop, building international people’s power against imperialist war— centred on working class leadership—is essential to defending humanity’s future,” the party warned.

The FSP stressed that regime change in Iran must be determined by the Iranian people themselves, not through imperialist invasions. It warned that if not resisted, Iran could face civil war and subjugation to imperialist interests, similar to Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.

The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) has requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide information on the incident on Tuesday (02 Sept) in which a group of NPP and JVP members had forcibly entered its Gampaha District Office.

Filing a Right to Information (RT) request, FSP Propaganda Secretary, Duminda Nagamuwa, sought information from IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya. 

In a letter to the IGP, Duminda Nagamuwa raised 16 questions regarding the Police force’s actions related to the incident. (Newswire)

The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) has accused a group of National People’s Power (NPP) members of having forcibly taken control of its Office on Kirindiwala Road in Yakkala, Gampaha.

It is reported that the NPP members had allegedly assaulted the persons at the office and later taken control of the property.

A Police Officer at the scene informed FSP members that the NPP had filed a complaint with the Yakkala Police, stating that a court order had been received regarding the property.

He further said that requests by the Police to the FSP members for a discussion on the matter had not received a response.

However, the FSP members allege that if a court order had been issued, then the property should be officially taken over under the supervision of the relevant officials. 

Speaking to the media, FSP member Duminda Nagamuwa said his party has been using this property for key party activities for over 10 years.

Stating that the NPP had eyed this property for a long time, he accused them of forcibly taking the property by abusing their power. 

He further said that the court is yet to deliver its verdict on the ownership of the property, and that if a judgment has been made, then it should be enforced by the legal officers. (Newswire)
