The Government Information Centre (GIC) has introduced a WhatsApp service to assist vehicle owners with registering for the National Fuel Pass.

Those facing difficulties in registration can send their vehicle number (typed, not as a photo) to 0760191919 via WhatsApp.

According to officials from the Ministry of Digital Economy, they must also submit clear images of the following documents:

  • National Identity Card (NIC), driving license, or passport
  • Valid revenue license
  • Vehicle registration certificate (CR)

The ministry officials stressed that registration will only be processed for the registered owner of the vehicle, and the NIC number must match the details on the CR.

All personal data provided will be protected under the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022.

Data will be collected solely for validation purposes, and once verification is complete, all personal information except the vehicle number will be securely removed from the system.

Former Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has credited several stakeholders, highlighting that the National Fuel Pass QR system was developed and rolled out within a month at no cost to the government.

Taking to ‘X’, Wijesekera said that credit for developing the National Fuel Pass QR system belongs to Jayantha De Silva and his team at the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), Supun Weerasinghe and his team at Dialog Axiata, and Shevan Goonathilake and his team at Millennium IT.

“Their teams developed the platform within 2 weeks of our first meeting and rolled it out within a month at no cost to the government. It was implemented with the assistance and dedication of many more stakeholders,” he added.

The National Fuel Pass QR System, which was introduced in August 2022 during the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, has once again been introduced due to the crisis in the Middle East region caused by the conflict between the USA and Iran. (Newswire)
