The Government has decided to provide official email addresses to public sector employees as part of efforts to strengthen and accelerate the digitalisation of the public service, the Ministry of Digital Economy says.

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne said the initiative would help create a more interconnected public service and facilitate efficient communication and data exchange between government institutions.

He noted that many public sector employees currently use personally created email addresses for communications.

Under the new programme, official government email addresses will make it easier for public officials to securely exchange documents and other essential information while also facilitating activities such as video conferencing.

The Deputy Minister said the initiative is expected to improve connectivity among public institutions and support the Government’s broader digitalisation programme.

The official email facility will be provided to all public officials who conduct official communications via email. (Newswire)
