Assistant Director of Tourism, Gulmarg, Javeed-ur-Rehman, stated the destination recorded 16.50 lakh tourist arrivals in 2023, surpassing the previous year’s 15.4 lakhs.

“Gulmarg is a winter tourism jewel, offering skiing, mesmerising views, and Kashmiri hospitality,” he said, expecting a rise in tourist footfall.

On Christmas Eve, Gulmarg saw 10,000 tourists, with foreign arrivals set to increase during winter activities.

Gulmarg is prepared for the winter season boom, with full-capacity operation in the hospitality sector. Meanwhile, officials urge visitors to explore Kashmir’s beauty, emphasizing landscapes and local hospitality. “Let Gulmarg enchant you, and may our people’s hospitality create lasting memories,” Rehman said.

An official from the tourism department shared the 2023 tourist influx details. In January, 95,989 tourists visited, including 69,383 domestic, 26,149 local, and 457 foreigners. February recorded 92,412 arrivals, March 119,350, April 136,096, and May 154,284.

June and July marked peak months. In June, 2,08,011 people visited, including 1,57,720 domestic, 49,945 locals, and 346 foreigners. July had 2,15,465 arrivals, including 103,207 domestic, 1,11,519 locals, and 739 foreigners.

August recorded 1,21,941 visitors, September 1,11,968, October 1,24,757, November 1,23,333, and December around 1,46,500 arrivals.

Authorities collaborate for crowd control, traffic management, and visitor welfare. The iconic Gulmarg Gondola, Asia’s highest cable car, remains a major attraction.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Gulmarg, Syed Altaf Hussain, assures preparations for a safe winter experience, urging visitors to stay informed about weather updates and follow safety guidelines.

Director Tourism, Raja Yaqoob, says foreign tourists mostly visit, signalling a happy gesture.
