A 23‑year‑old suspect from Homagama has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder by shooting in Dehiwala earlier this month.

Police said the incident occurred on August 4 in the Kadawatha Road area of the Dehiwala Police Division, where a gunman attempted to shoot and kill a man. 

Following investigations, the suspect, identified as the gunman, was apprehended last evening (09) in the Habarakada area of Athurugiriya by a team from the Jayawardanapura Police Special Task Force camp.

The suspect was handed over to the Dehiwala Police Station, which is conducting further investigations into the case. (Newswire)

Suranga Sanjeewa Karunaratne alias “Matiya”, suspected of acting as the gunman for organized crime figure ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’, was arrested last night at Katunayake International Airport.

Police said the suspect, a resident of Kotugoda, Yagodamulla, was detained by Malaysian security forces and deported to Sri Lanka, where officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took him into custody upon arrival.

Authorities noted that an international red notice had been issued against him. 

He faces charges over the July 2022 shooting near the Gampaha Court premises, in which organized criminal “Paspodda” was killed and several others injured.

Following initial questioning, the suspect was handed over to the Western Province North Crimes Division for further investigations. Police confirmed that a 72‑hour detention order has been obtained to continue inquiries. (Newswire)

The suspected gunman in the shooting incident in Kotahena on November 07, in which an individual was killed, has been arrested. 

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) had launched an investigation into the fatal shooting incident, where a man who arrived in a car allegedly opened fire, resulting in the homicide.

Based on a tip-off, officers from the CCD apprehended the suspected gunman yesterday (19), while he was hiding in a house in the Kolongoda area.

Upon arrest, authorities discovered 12.3 grams of ‘ICE’ narcotics in his possession.

The suspect, a 39-year-old resident of Kaduwela, is currently being held under a 72-hour detention order.

Two suspects, including the gunman, in the shooting incident reported in Nedimala, Dehiwala on 19 May, have been arrested by the Western Province South Crimes Division. 

According to the Police, the suspects were wanted for having attempted to shoot and murder an individual at a store in Nedimala.

The Police said an individual suspected of being the gunman in the shooting was arrested with 10.16 grams of ICE today.

Another individual, suspected of aiding the shooting, was also arrested along with 10.35 grams of ICE.

The suspects, aged 38 and 43, are residents of Dehiwala and Mihintale. The Western Province South Crimes Division is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)

The gunman wanted in the murder of a former Superintendent of the Boossa Prison has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport, while attempting to flee Sri Lanka.

The suspect was arrested by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today while attempting to flee to Thailand using a forged passport.

CID officers had installed a facial recognition system at the departure terminal of the Katunayake Airport for his arrest.

The arrested suspect is a 31-year-old resident of Ambalangoda.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect was the main shooter of the leader of the southern organized crime gang, Karandeniya Sudda.

According to the Police, he is a suspect wanted for numerous murders and financial fraud in the Galle and Ambalangoda police areas.

The gunman in the recent shooting in Nagalagam Street, Grandpass has been arrested by officials from the Grandpass Police. 

The 34-year-old suspect, a resident of Grandpass, was arrested this morning (25 Mar).

A total of four suspects have been arrested so far in connection to the shooting in which two persons were injured. 

Two persons on a motorcycle had been injured after being shot by two unidentified men on a motorcycle on 17 March.

The Middeniya Police have arrested the gunman involved in the fatal shooting that claimed three lives, including two children, in Middeniya in February.

The attack occurred when two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on a man travelling with his young son and daughter on another motorcycle. 

The father was killed instantly, while his daughter succumbed to injuries at the hospital. His son, who was in critical condition, passed away the following day.

The gunman arrested in connection to the murder of underworld kingpin Ganemulla Sanjeewa has been identified as the gunman involved in a shooting in Kandana in December last year.

The Police said Samindu Dilshan Piyumanga Kandanaarachchi had opened fire at a house in Kandana on 13 December 2024 and had fled the area.

Investigations have revealed that the shooting had been orchestrated by an organized criminal living overseas. 

The information had come to light after the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) had interrogated the suspect under a 90-day detention order.
