The Government has allocated Rs. 600 million to renovate the Hali Ela–Badulla section of the Peradeniya–Badulla–Chenkaladi road, with plans to complete the project within six months. 

Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Dinindu Saman Hennayake announced the initiative following a road inspection tour from Hali Ela town to Badulla yesterday (11).

The Deputy Minister said the project goes beyond routine resurfacing, aiming to provide maximum convenience to the public while enhancing the beauty of the town. The development will include pedestrian platforms, marked crossings, and protective fences to improve safety along a stretch identified as accident‑prone.

With Ella and Badulla attracting large numbers of tourists, the project also focuses on beautifying the road and surrounding environment to promote tourism. Urban development will be carried out to ensure both towns benefit equally.

During the inspection, officials from the Road Development Authority, including its engineer, joined the Deputy Minister and Hali Ela Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Priyantha Varushamana. 

Hennayake noted that construction has been planned attractively without harming the natural environment, with special attention given to key locations requiring improvements.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Road Development has allocated significant funds for Badulla District, and the Rs. 600 million investment will be used effectively to improve public welfare. (Newswire)
