Senior Professor Hareendra Dissabandara has been appointed the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). 

Prof. Dissabandara was appointed to the top post in the capital market regulatory body by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Finance Minister.

He replaces Faizal Salieh, who was appointed in February 2023 by then-President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Finance Minister. 

Prof. Dissabandara previously served as SEC Director General from 2012-2013 as well as its Financial Services Academy and Capital Market Education and Training Division Director from 2008-2012. 

As SEC Director General, he initiated 10 key projects to accelerate the development of the Sri Lankan capital market. (Newswire)
