Sri Lanka Customs officers have arrested an 18‑year‑old Canadian girl at the Katunayake International Airport after uncovering 36 kilograms of hashish valued at approximately Rs. 352.65 million concealed in her luggage.

The suspect had arrived from Toronto via Dubai on an Emirates flight, landing around 10:40 pm. 

Customs Narcotics Control Unit officials intercepted her during routine checks.

Upon inspection of her two travel bags, officers discovered 35.265 kilograms of hashish hidden inside.

Preliminary investigations are being conducted by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit, while the suspect and the seized narcotics are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further legal proceedings. (Newswire)

A parcel suspected to contain 10 packets of narcotics has been seized while floating in the seas off the Katukurunda Beach area in Kalutara South this morning. 

According to the Police, the parcel was found based on information received by the Police Special Task Force (STF) Camp in Katukurunda. 

Upon inspection, it was confirmed that the parcel contained 11.9 kilos of Hashish.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover information regarding the suspects and other details connected to this drug parcel.

A 21-year-old Canadian national has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake with a stock of hashish valued at over Rs. 180 million.

According to reports, the suspect was apprehended by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Division while attempting to smuggle the narcotics out through the airport’s Green Channel.

The arrested individual is a 21-year-old Canadian national who arrived at Katunayake early this morning (28) from Dubai.

Upon inspection of his travel bag, authorities discovered 18.253 kilos of hashish concealed in 72 small packages inside six polythene-wrapped bundles.

The suspect and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Airport Narcotics Bureau for further investigation, according to Customs officials. (Newswire)

A 37-year-old Canadian woman was arrested early this morning at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of hashish into Sri Lanka.

The suspect arrived in the island early this morning onboard a flight from Canada via Doha. During a routine inspection, Customs officials searched her luggage and discovered 18.1 kilograms of hashish concealed inside.

The seized narcotics are estimated to have a street value of around Rs. 181 million, according to Sri Lanka Customs.

Customs Media Spokesperson and Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda said that preliminary investigations are underway. The suspect and the seized drugs are expected to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB). (Newswire)

Four suspects have been arrested at the Katunayake Airport for attempting to smuggle in stocks of Kush cannabis and Hashish to Sri Lanka. 

Officials from the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at the airport had arrested three suspects for the possession of the narcotics and one suspect for aiding them.

One suspect was found with 491g of Kush Cannabis and 312g of Hashish, another suspect with 671g of Kush cannabis and 625g of Hashish, and the third suspect with 454g of Kush Cannabis and 825g of Hashish. 

The suspects arrested yesterday are aged 23, 24, 25, and 36 years old and are residents of Yakkala, Mahawatte, Badulla, and Colombo 15.

A foreign woman has been arrested with 17 kilos of Hashish narcotics at the Katunayake Airport.

According to Sri Lanka Customs, the seized stock of Hashish is worth Rs. 170 million.

The suspect is a 20-year-old Canadian woman, who had travelled from Canada via Abu Dhabi and arrived in Sri Lanka last night.

Sri Lanka Customs has seized 30kg of the narcotic ‘Hashish’, estimated to be approximately Rs.212 million in value.

According to Customs officials, the stock of narcotics had been sent to Sri Lanka from Italy via a parcel clearance company in Colombo.
