Continuing to reaffirm its commitment to social responsibility, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) extended its support to Deniyaya Base Hospital by donating essential medical equipment to strengthen healthcare services, particularly in the Maternity Ward and Paediatric Unit. The initiative was part of the Institute’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and in celebration of its 65th anniversary.

Deniyaya Base Hospital has been facing a critical shortage of essential medical equipment, significantly impacting its ability to provide adequate healthcare services. The lack of diagnostic tools, patient monitors, and life-saving devices posed serious challenges, especially for maternity and paediatric care. The unavailability of these critical tools also led to situations where patients’ lives, especially those in the maternity ward, were at risk.

Having carefully evaluated the hospital’s requirements in consultation with a technical team formed by the hospital, and in response to the urgent need, CA Sri Lanka donated medical oxygen supply equipment, one multi-monitor, four syringe pumps, and four BP apparatus (aneroid), worth over LKR 3.7 million.

The official handing-over ceremony took place on 15th March 2025 at the hospital premises where Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, President of CA Sri Lanka handed over the equipment to Dr. Kasun Withana, Medical Superintendent at the Deniyaya Base Hospital. Among those present at the event were Members of the Council of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Thivanka Jayasinghe, Chairman of the Member Relations Committee, Ms. Jani Ganeshan, Chair of the CSR Sub-Committee, members of the Member Relations Committee, donors, Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, CEO of CA Sri Lanka, as well as the staff of the Institute and the hospital.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Kuruppu emphasised CA Sri Lanka’s commitment to supporting the healthcare sector: “Health is essential, and doctors play a vital role in saving lives. This donation will undoubtedly contribute to building a healthier future for generations to come.”

Dr. Withana extended the hospital’s gratitude to CA Sri Lanka, emphasising how the donation will help save lives and improve patient care.

As the profession evolves beyond traditional financial expertise, the new curriculum equips Chartered Accountants to lead in a rapidly changing business landscape shaped by digitisation, artificial intelligence, and sustainability. It fosters technical excellence, ethical leadership, and strategic impact, ensuring accountants are prepared for emerging challenges.

With a strong focus on AI-driven financial analysis, data analytics, and automation, the curriculum empowers accountants to deliver strategic insights and drive business decisions. Digital literacy and sustainability are also integrated to meet evolving stakeholder expectations. Centered on three key pillars—Trusted, Strategic, and Storyteller it enhances the capabilities of future Chartered Accountants, positioning them as influential leaders in the profession.

Addressing the event, Mr. Heshana Kuruppuemphasised that the pioneering 2025-2030 curriculum is designed to equip the next generation of Chartered Accountants with the critical skills to adapt, innovate, and lead in a rapidly evolving business landscape. Moving beyond traditional financial stewardship, the curriculum integrates AI-driven financial analysis, digital literacy, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting, ensuring that Chartered Accountants become trusted advisors and strategic business leaders.

Mr. Sanjaya Bandara added that CA Sri Lanka’s commitment to equipping its members for the digital age is embodied in the new curriculum, which combines technical excellence with strategic thinking and ethical leadership. “The three key promises, which are Trusted, Strategic, and Storyteller, guide the curriculum’s approach. Chartered Accountants will uphold the highest standards in financial reporting and management accounting while also becoming leaders in sustainability and governance. The focus on storytelling through leadership, negotiation, and communication skills will help accountants translate financial data into impactful business strategies,” he said.

He added that to ensure the curriculum meets the evolving demands of the profession and the industry requirements, an extensive stakeholder analysis was carried out. The insights gathered were instrumental in shaping a curriculum that is both industry relevant and future ready.

Beyond core technical knowledge, the curriculum integrates integrity skills, power skills, and enabling skills, ensuring that Chartered Accountants are prepared to lead through innovation and change. It is aligned with international standards, including the International Education Standards of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the global accountancy body, ensuring global competitiveness. A key feature in the new curriculum is the Capstone Module, aimed at strengthening real-world application, enabling students to integrate their knowledge into strategic decision-making.

The curriculum is structured across three levels Business, Corporate, and Strategic ensuring a clear progression from foundational knowledge to advanced application. This ensures that Chartered Accountants not only possess essential technical knowledge but are also equipped to solve real-world business problems, preparing them to lead with trust, think strategically, and communicate with impact.
