A shooting incident was reported early this morning (11) in Hirana, Panadura, leaving one individual injured, police said.

According to police, an unidentified person broke a window of a house in Malamulla, within the Hirana Police Division, and opened fire before fleeing.

The injured individual, a 32-year-old resident of Malamulla, has been admitted to Panadura Hospital for treatment.

Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the suspects and ascertain the motive behind the incident. (Newswire)

The Hirana Police has launched a probe into the suspicious death of a 06-year-old girl inside a house in the Pinkella area last afternoon (07).

The Police stated that the child, who was residing with her mother and the mother’s paramour, had been ill for several days and had not been provided medical attention. 

Investigations have revealed that the child had been physically assaulted by her mother’s paramour on multiple occasions previously.

The Police stated that the child, who is also hearing and speech impaired, was found with several scars and swelling on her body.

The 25-year-old mother of the child and the woman’s 29-year-old paramour have been arrested over the death. 

The magisterial inquiry into the death has been conducted, while the body has been placed at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila for the postmortem examination. (NewsWire)
