The Police have issued a public warning regarding fraudulent activities carried out by organized groups impersonating senior police officers.

According to reports, these groups have been making phone calls to tourist hotels and other private institutions in Colombo, posing as high-ranking police officials. 

They have allegedly deceived establishments by claiming that food supplies and money were required for various events. Investigations into these scams have already commenced. 

Police emphasized that such fraudulent activities are being conducted by individuals or organized groups and urged the public and institutions not to be misled.

Authorities further requested that anyone with information related to these incidents immediately inform the nearest police station or contact the designated telephone numbers provided. (Newswire)

A suspect has been remanded for allegedly misusing the name of veteran film director Sanath Abeysekara to solicit sexual bribes from women.

The individual was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and presented before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (12).

Investigations revealed that the suspect had created a fake Facebook account impersonating Sanath Abeysekara and contacted aspiring actresses, claiming to offer film roles, while demanding money and sexual favours.

Director Sanath Abeysekara had filed a formal complaint with the CID, leading to the suspect’s arrest. 

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court remanded the suspect until November 17 pending further legal proceedings. (Newswire)

An individual who had impersonated the Coordinating Secretary of the Public Security Minister and had verbally abused and threatened an official of the Public Security Ministry via a telephone call has been arrested.

The Police stated that the incident had occurred on Tuesday (18), and the Criminal Investigations Department had arrested the suspect in the Kottaramulla area in Chillaw the following day based on a complaint. 

The suspect has been identified as a 37-year-old resident of the Upper Kottaramulla area.

Investigating officers suspect that the man may have impersonated the Public Security Minister Coordinating Secretary and verbally abused various Police officers on previous occasions.

The suspect who was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday (20) had pleaded guilty after which he was released on a surety of Rs. 100,000. (NewsWire)
