Sri Lanka Customs has destroyed a container full of illegally imported cigarettes.

It is reported that the seized imported cigarettes were estimated to be worth Rs. 820 million.

Following an inspection by Customs officials, the stock of cigarettes was destroyed. (Newswire)

A 43-year-old man has been arrested at the Katunayake airport for attempting to smuggle in 47 cartons of imported cigarettes.

According to the Police, the suspect was arrested during a raid conducted by Police Narcotics Bureau officials based on a tip-off.

The suspect was found to be in possession of 47 cartons consisting of 9400 sticks of imported cigarettes. 

The man, a resident of Yatiyana, had arrived in Sri Lanka last night. The Police Narcotics Bureau is conducting investigations. (Newswire)

A 37-year-old man has been arrested with a large stock of illegally imported cigarettes in Dehiwala.

According to the Police, the suspect was arrested during a raid conducted by the Police Special Task Force (STF) on Moore Road yesterday, based on a tip-off. 

STF officials had seized 400 sticks of illegally imported cigarettes from the possession of the suspect, a resident of Dehiwala. 

The Dehiwala Police is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
