A police officer, attached to the Traffic Unit of the Cinnamon Gardens Police, died after being run over by a luxury car last evening.

According to CCTV footage, the accident occurred at the roundabout near the CCC Grounds while the car was travelling from the Nelumpokuna Theater in Colombo towards Independence Square.

The luxury car ran over the police officer who was on traffic duty at the site and collided with the fountain in the middle of the roundabout.

Lankadeepa reported that the 25-year-old police officer, a resident of Walasmulla, passed away this morning at the Colombo National Hospital.

The police have arrested the 28-year-old driver of the SUV. (NewsWire)

A Police officer attached to the Traffic Unit of the Cinnamon Gardens Police has been injured after being run over by a luxury car this evening, it was reported.

According to media reports, the accident took place at the roundabout near the CCC Grounds while the car was travelling towards Independence Square from the Nelumpokuna Theater in Colombo.

The luxury car is reported to have run over the Police Officer who was engaged in traffic duty at the site and had collided with the fountain in the middle of the roundabout.

It is assumed that the driver of the car had driven in a reckless manner causing the accident.
